Tarun Lala: Steering the Helm of Design and Tech of Fanzart,
India’s Leading Brand of Luxury Fans

Meet TarunLala, a second-generation entrepreneur and Executive Director of Fanzart, a family business of luxury designer fans. His role straddles multiple universes of design, innovation, management and digital technology. He does all this while spearheading the building of tech-based apps for sectors like healthcare, finance and aviation with his independent technology-based business initiatives.

A Serial Entrepreneur

An electrical engineer from Northeastern University, USA and a Stanford entrepreneur, Tarun has been a serial entrepreneur from the get-go. On the sidelines of working with EMC – first in hardware and then as a tech consultant), he embarked on his first venture, Yes Master – a delivery services app and received international funding of close to $850,000 within a few months of going live. His next venture Levo, sought to connect entrepreneurs with one another. The business tied up with hotels, airlines, cafes, lounges etc., and Tarun was behind the world’s first airport networking lounge to be sent up at Bengaluru International airport.

At the peak of its success, the concept was sold to the airport and Tarun moved on to the next big thing – taking on the Director’s mantle in family business of designer luxury fans, Fanzart. Started by his father self-made entrepreneur, Anil Lala. Having worked on Fanzart even during his entrepreneurial stints, Tarun now took on full time, dealing with front-end requirements – from forging strategic partnerships to franchising, to the e-commerce and digital marketing as well as social media marketing of the brand. Additionally, he plays an integral role in designing – or as he puts it, creating aesthetic solutions for Indian requirements for Fanzart products.

A Designer of Aesthetic Solutions
As a brand, Fanzart is the only imported brand of fans that is designed and created to suit Indian conditions – a key feature that Tarun spearheadswith intense research of the market segment. Every problem statement, he asserts, is solved in the country, before it goes to the international factories to be created. With his background in technology, over the years, Fanzart has come up with path-breaking (some pending patents) solutions that have combine technology with functionality and aesthetics.

Introducing BLDC Fans into Home Automation:Fanzart was the first company in India to bring in the brushless DC Motor fans, an internationally implemented technology that guarantees enormous power saving. “Put simply, if all the fans in India turn to BLDC, 30 Lakh watts of power per hour can be saved and that would be the answer to India’s power problems”, explains Tarun. To facilitate this, the motor created by Fanzart has 350gms of pure copper, a feature no other company in the country incorporates. Of Fanzart’s 112 varieties of fans, 50 come with the BLDC motors.

Creating Fan Hubs:Great discoveries have often been made by accident or by smart innovation. SmartArt by Fanzart has solved the problem of automation integration with AC and DC Fans and is the first company to develop DC Fans with an on-the-wall interface for manual operation, along with Remote, App and Voice Control (Amazon Echo / Alexa, Google Home). Not only have they automated the fan but now the fan can be used as a hub/enabler to automate your entire home.

In the process of working on creating regulators that would speak the BLDC motor language, it was found that the fans themselves can be turned to hubs that can be used to automate the house.

Fanzart’s fans also come with sleep options, dimmers, LEDs and even a summer-winter feature where fans turn clockwise for warm air and anti-clockwise for cool breeze.

Speaker Technology:Fanzart has fans that incorporate Bluetooth technology, among other features that allow for seamless integration into home automation features. A puja room fan that plays bhajans, a children’s room fan that retracts, a dining room fan that lights up a space, retracts its blades when not needed and which cools while letting food remain warm – that is technology at its best.

Blending Aesthetics with Functionality: From creating Fandeliers (Fans that are chandeliers), to fans that double up as light features; that come with retractable blades; to those that oscillate, revolve and rotate on command, and much more Fanzart, Tarun has elevated the humble fan from a last mile purchase to an element incorporated right at the design level.

A huge sports fan, particularly Basketball,Tarun is also the proud co-owner of Southside Warriors, a 7-member team in the Street Ball League – a first-of-its-kind 3on3 basketball tournament. Conceptualized and initiated by youth icon brothers RannvijaySingha and Harman Singha, these high-octane games are taking the country by storm.

Young and raring to go Tarun belongs to the universe of entrepreneurs and forward thinkers who ideate all the time and implement smartly, just as quickly.
